Discovering The Basics Of Concrete Chemistry
Discovering The Basics Of Concrete ChemistryIf you've always wondered what concrete chemistry is, you'll be glad to know that it's easy to find out. All you need to do is take a peek at your local libraries or visit your local bookstore. There are plenty of books on this subject too. If you want to know more about concrete chemistry, there are some great ways to get more information. The best way to find out about concrete chemistry is to go to your local library and peruse the books in their chemistry section. There, you can get a pretty comprehensive list of the basic theories on this subject. You may also find that they have a section devoted to the different chemical reactions in the typical building material. These sections will also give you an idea about the source of the material. This could be concrete mix, sand, clay, or even rock!Another way to learn about concrete chemistry is to take a class or to read an expert's class on this subject. If you're interested in getting som e hands-on experience in building, there are plenty of options available to you. Of course, there's nothing like a 'real world' study to really get your mind and body ready for what's ahead.Classes on this subject can be found at a variety of colleges. Usually, though, the better schools will offer the best chance to understand the different processes involved in this building material. It can also help you to learn about the materials that you will use in your own buildings. The next best thing to do if you want to get more information is to visit your local bookstores. You may find the person who sold you the book on this subject! If you are thinking about starting a business, you may also want to look into going to a bricklaying class in your area.Concrete chemistry is something that is often overlooked by many people. It's a great subject to learn about and also to understand why buildings have this substance. Building materials should come with a guarantee that they are safe and fireproof.Even if you have a healthy respect for construction and building in general, it's probably not a good idea to build anything on a regular basis without knowing what materials are used. Whether you're looking to build a home, a commercial building, or just a little office space, knowing what's in the building materials you use is essential. The more knowledge you gain about concrete chemistry, the safer and more effective your projects will be.

5 Things to Know About Off-Campus Living
5 Things to Know About Off-Campus Living Although we all describe the initial move to college as living on your own, thats really an illusion of sorts. Sure, you may be living without your parents, but it takes a lot more than that to be seriously independent. The dorms may offer you a place of your own, but lets face it they still shelter you from some big responsibilities that truly living on your own entails. Of course, no one lives in the dorms forever. Its fun for awhile, but eventually you get fed up with the cramped space and loud floormates and are ready to move on. Students even recognize the aspects of an actually independent living residence that their dorm lacks. This is highlighted when they express their desire for a spacious living room to host social gatherings, a fully-equipped kitchen to keep them from the dining hall, a bathroom they dont have to share with 30 other people, and of course their own room. And hey, a porch or balcony would be nice, too. The possibilities seem limitless and the ideas grow, leading a student to feel so anxious and excited about apartment life that they barely give any bit of substantial thought to the not-so-fun obligations involved. Dont get blind-sighted by the responsibilities of off-campus living. Prepare yourself by paying attention to the following notes: 1. You will have to clean really clean. If you thought sweeping or vacuuming your dorm room floor once in awhile was what it takes to keep a home tidy, be ready for a rude awakening. Suddenly, the years you spent watching your parents spend hours on end scrubbing the bathroom floors and kitchen counters are going to make a lot of sense. They werent just being nit-picky, these tasks need to be done! At least, they need to be done if you dont want bugs and weird smells taking over your place. And the type of cleaning necessary to accomplish those goals is serious, not something you can coast your way through. Particularly the kitchen and bathroom will need the most consistent attention. Toilets need to be cleaned and dirty dishes need to be washed before things get bothersome. Additionally, throughout the entire place, its amazing how quickly dust and dirt accumulate. Dont forget about taking out the inevitably overflowing trash either. As you can see, great discipline in this departm ent is required to keep yourself safe from a filthy living environment, so buy those sponges and rubber gloves and learn how to use them! 2. Maintenance is required. There are two parts to this. One: you will need to pay attention to how things are working and make sure youre taking care of them properly. This can range from light-bulbs going out, to batteries failing, to your closet door being jammed, to your microwave breaking. Theres no R.A. down the hall with items on hand or a dorm lobby convenience store downstairs. Itll be up to you and only you to get a store and find the right tools or items you need. You will typically want to try your best to solve these problems yourself because otherwise, youll have to pay a certain service to fix them, which brings us to the second part of this: calling and dealing with landlords and maintenance workers. Dealing with making the necessary series of calls, scheduling appointments, being there for the appointments in the midst of your busy class schedule, and then paying the most likely overcharged bill is not a fun or simple process. However, these are just random day-to-da y issues that unfortunately cant be avoided and must be addressed. 3. Rent and bills. Speaking of ridiculously high maintenance bills, those wont be the only checks youll have to write out. The bills you receive may vary depending on the kind of package your landlord offers i.e. something cable or internet may be included in rent. But lets pay attention to that last word rent. Odds are the more services your landlord provides, the higher your rent will be. So, either way, you are paying a lot of money for off-campus living. Electricity, heat, cable, internet, and any other services you would like will no longer be luxuries for you; they are now things you need to actively pay for. Youre going to feel a lot more pressure to save money, and more importantly, get these various payments made in a timely manner. If you are late turning in a rent check or paying a bill, the aftermath is not going to be pretty. 4. Location is not always ideal. Unlike the dorms, apartments will not be so conveniently placed to accommodate your daily routine throughout campus. This shouldnt be too surprising since they are, in fact, referred to as off-campus living. But living so directly on campus your freshman year is bound to spoil you and not leave in the mindset to fully digest what it will really be like to have to make so many long walks. Granted, some off-campus apartments/house are closer to campus than others, and you may get lucky, but even then you will have to adjust accordingly. Make sure you get a solid idea of approximately how long it will take you to get to various academic buildings from your place of residence. This is absolutely necessary for you to be able to get to classes on time, set your alarm at an appropriate hour, and go about your normal schedule with no issues. 5. Socialization will not be as easy. In the dorms, friends were just a few steps down the hallway. Even if you just wanted to be around people regardless of who they were, you could head downstairs to one of the common areas and feel comfortable. Once youre living off-campus, social opportunities wont be so easily nearby. Outside of your roommates and neighbors, youll have to make an extra effort to see your friends who may live more than a few blocks away. None of this is to say you wont be able to see anyone anymore, its just a clarification that youll have to actively get outside of your living space more in order to be around people (besides in your classes). Otherwise, you could very easily fall into a trap of isolating yourself. Living off-campus certainly comes with a lot of the perks you desire, but these responsibilities must be taken into account as well. As long as you move in with a mature manner to handle all of this, you will have a successful off-campus living experience.

A Comforting Thing... - Introvert Whisperer
Introvert Whisperer / A Comforting Thing... - Introvert Whisperer A Comforting Thing My blog followers â" todayâs post is a bit out of the norm for me as itâs not my usual actionable career advice. Nevertheless, there are a couple of good gold nuggets I thought you might want to consider regarding finding comfort. The company Tommy John (menâs underwear) featured my input on things that bring me comfort in a savvy info-graphic they created. Who canât use a few more comforting things to make life great!? Here are a few other comfort tips I have to share: Letâs face it, I find great comfort in a good cookie. Itâs good for days that are tough and days that are great you can never go wrong with a good cookie. When Iâm stressed, I search YouTube or Facebook for cute kittens or animals videos. Any stress melts away as you focus on the immense love you can feel for an animal. On Sunday afternoonsâ, I like to search for cheesy sci-fi movies to kick back and do nothing but take in mindless content. Itâs comforting as it hails back to what I did as a kid. Enjoy! Dorothy

The Importance of Writing Skills
The Importance of Writing Skills Once the sentence-diagramming and short-essay days of grade school and high school are behind you, it can be easy to think you have all the writing foundation you need and no further perfecting is necessary especially if you choose a major in college that doesn't require extensive writing. Once you reach college, however, you may be surprised at how many non-English programs do require a great deal of writing (communications, history, and political science, to name a few). This writing may come in the form of lengthy essays, research papers, exams, projects, and proposals. Below, you will discover the key reasons writing skills are vital and just how you can enhance those skills: Proper writing skills can carry you through a variety of tasks Believe it or not, no matter what major you choose, you will at some point be required to write something. Every major will have testing in its courses some of which will be short answer or essay exams, which require well-rounded responses. This is where skills you learned in middle school come into play; the importance of structuring your essays, having a beginning, middle, and end, and utilizing proper transitions are all important. These are all elements that, whether you like it or not, follow you into your college courses, and having proper writing skills can help you make a great impression on any professor or class. [RELATED: 4 Confusing Grammar Rules Cleared Up] With confidence in your writing skills, you won't have to rely on others Hypothetical situation: The dreaded group project of the semester rolls around and youre dividing up the tasks. You see the perfect opportunity to let another student in the group take on the task of writing the paper or proposal involved. However, that person doesn't turn in what they were supposed to on time and your group is docked points. In situations like these, having confidence in your own writing can come in handy. You shouldnt compose the entire project yourself, but you will have more freedom to take a leadership role in the group to ensure everything is packaged and turned in on time. Your confidence can also allow you to provide helpful feedback to your group members as you work together to achieve your goals (after all, you shouldnt be doing the entire project yourself!). Dont forget to also openly be receptive to feedback, too another group member may feel just as confident in his or her writing and be able to exchange valuable notes with you. Less revisions = more productivity As we have established, writing some form of content will be inevitable in your college career. This means that the less you work toward building confidence in your writing, the more time you will inevitably spend editing and revising your work. If you can learn from the critiques, you will eventually be able to spend less time fixing your work and more time being productive in other aspects of your life and education. This isnt to say that revising will never be necessary, because even the strongest writers go through a few proofreads! The idea is simply to minimize the need for extra rewrites. The more you refine your skills, the closer youll be to your final product with your initial writing drafts. [RELATED: Top 10 Essay Editing Tips] Writing is a lifelong skill The skill of writing doesn't end when you graduate college. Most job fields will require some type of writing, even if that is simply your resume and cover letter to apply for the job. Whatever it may be, writing skills can make you a more well-rounded job applicant. Dont forget about the ever-so-frequent art of writing emails, as well! This comes up every day in most jobs, and being able to compose well-written emails on a whim will only help you (whereas poorly-written emails could taint your reputation). Bonus Tip: Take advantage of resources! As long as youre on campus, you might as well take advantage of the many campus resources available to you (youll miss them when you graduate!). Check out the writing center on campus or meet with your professors during their office hours. Taking initiative in either of these capacities can help you figure out where you are going wrong and steer you in the right direction. Also note that many TAs may accept rough drafts of papers (if they are delivered far enough in advance) to look over and give you guidance on, which can help you get an idea for what your final draft should look like. It is easy to simply say writing is not your skill and feel sufficient leaving it at that. The ability to properly transition paragraphs and organize thoughts on paper is something that will follow you throughout your life, not only in schooling, but in the job field as well. The good news is there are always resources, such as writing tutoring, and other ways to practice this skill so you can feel more confident in your abilities. Any topics you want to know more about?
